January 11, 2010- The Lepakshi Export Oriented showroom run by the
Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. is organizing an
exclusive Kondapally
wooden toys and
handloom exhibition-cum-sale up to January 13, 2010 (10 am- 8 pm daily).
Consumers these days prefer non toxic wooden toys over other toys,
specially those made of plastic, as they have become more concerned about
the health impact of toys on their children as well as about the
environment. Kondapalli toys are one of the finest pieces of hand-made
wooden artifacts. They are made from special lightweight white soft wood.
These toys are then painted with vegetable paints. Water and oil colors
are also used, but vegetable dyes are the latest attraction as they make
these wooden toys non toxic. Different parts of these eco-friendly wooden
toys are carved separately and then glued together with an adhesive made
of tamarind seeds. Painting is done with soft, thin paintbrushes made out
of goats hair.
The handicrafts exhibition also displays other wooden handicrafts like
exclusive Kashmir Art of Cane Basketry along with other traditional
handlooms and handicrafts from other states of India.
