Dec 15, 2009- The overseas shipments of Indian handicraft exporters has increased in this Christmas season by nearly five times to $26.32 million or approximately Rs 122 crore in October 2009. In October last year, the handicrafts exports stood at $5.27 million or Rs 24 crore only. The reason behind this boom is believed to be the economic revival in some of the western economies. Raj Malhotra, Chairman Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts said-"For the Christmas and New Year season, we start getting orders from September onwards and this time we are getting good orders compared to last year," The US and EU together account for 70 per cent of India's total handicrafts exports.
