Halloween, one of the most entertaining days of the year, is celebrated on
October 31. In this celebration to honor all saints, it is believed that the
souls of the dead play with the people, especially with the kids.
Trick-or-treating is the custom that is happily followed by the children on
Halloween. Donned in Halloween costumes, they go from house to house asking
for treats such as confectionery, or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick
or treat?" Trick here is an idle threat to perform mischief on the
homeowners or their property if no treat is given. For this, kids prepare
themselves beforehand by making crafts like jack-o'-lantern etc. With time,
children have brought diversity in the tricks they perform. Now they engage
themselves in making novel crafts, sometimes even wood crafts, for enjoying
Halloween. Here are some wood craft projects for kids on the occasion of
Halloween.
Halloween Scarecrow

Take a pillowcase; something to stuff into the head to be made with pillow
case like rags, straw, crumpled newspaper, etc; a long, narrow, and sturdy
wooden stick, two dowels or broom handles
that are about 5 feet long and a 2 feet long; paint and paintbrush; string
or cord; an old shirt; and weeds, twigs, or straw. Tie the short stick
crosswise to the long stick, at about 9 inches from one end. This will make
the Scarecrow's shoulders. Now stuff one corner of pillowcase and tie this
corner. Now paint scary features on it something like Jack o' Lantern faces.
When the paint dries, assemble the Scarecrow. Put the old shirt on the
Scarecrow body and button it up. Stuff the shirt with weeds, grasses, straw
etc. Place the head over the top of the long stick at the neck and tie the
neck string with the stick now inside. Now place it in front of house where
you don't get treat.
Wooden Frames with Scary Pictures
Get some frames like
wooden mirror frames or
wooden picture frames. Paint and
decorate them with anything you like- paints, glitters, papers, etc. If you
want, you can even attach wood balls, finials, or small wooden toy wheels to
the frame edges to create some dramatic effects. Now paint a picture with
scary faces on paper that is of a size that fits well in the frame. You can
even make pictures by cutting paper. If so, paste them on another paper of
frame's size. Frame these pictures in your decorated frame and you've got a
great object for some horrible trick!
Spooky Mummy Table Centerpiece

It
is a great wood project idea for Halloween. Take a square or oval piece of
plywood, a small round glass bowl, birch shaker pegs, and wood balls.
Arrange for some parts of
wooden toys.
Also get some paint-orange, black or any dark colors- and a hot glue gun.
Now you can assemble your spooky mummy in whatever horror form you want to.
